Emptiness And Ecstasy by Wynne Paris
A multi-instrumentalist and arranger, Wynne's contributions include, lead vocals, saz, sarod, guitar, percussion and keyboard. Other talented musicians bring rock and jazz elements, tabla, percussion, ambient moods and worldly vocals. Also present are excellent live performances on sitar, bansuri, sarangi, trumpet and Indian and Tibetan vocalists.
The music ranges from funky raga-tinged rock to acoustic kirtan, Taoist poems set to music, and even a desi-mix "Boom Shiva" track featuring "Be Here Now" chanter Bhagavan Das.
In his exploration of culture, spirit and music, Wynne features guests from both the rock and the new age genres. In the track, Hey Hanuman, the pioneer of chant, Krishna Das sings while jam band musicians Mark Karan (Ratdog) and Jim Donovan (Rusted Root) improvise around Wynne's arrangement of a traditional Sanskrit mantra. Kim Waters and Hans Christian (Rasa) also throw down their celestial sounds. Other guests artists include, Girish, Sandip Berman, John Wubbenhorst, Gary Grainger, Amikaeyla and Radhika Sarin.
